AWS New Cost Optimization Hub: Savings Opportunities

AWS announced a new feature as AWS Cost Optimization Hub in last November re:Invent under AWS Billing and Cost Management which will help us to identify , filter , aggregate and quantify savings for AWS cost optimization recommendations across multiple AWS regions and accounts. It provides a consolidated dashboard which shows the recommendations such as resource right sizing, idle resource detection and purchasing options.

The best part is that Cost Optimization Hub is available at no additional charge in all AWS Regions, except for the AWS China Regions and AWS GovCloud (US) Regions.

Currently Cost Optimization Hub supports more than 15 types of cost optimization recommendations which comes mostly under the below 5 major categories.

• Rightsize

• Upgrade

• Graviton Migration

• Purchase Savings Plan

• Purchase Reserved Instances

To enable cost optimization hub, please follow the below steps.

• Open the AWS Billing and Cost Management Console. in the navigation pane, choose Cost Optimization Hub. You will find a page like below. you can enable it for particular AWS account or all member accounts of the organization simultaneously. Click on Enable as per your requirement by choosing the option.

• Once enable, now you can see the recommendations in the dashboard like below. The initial processes can take up to 24 hours to reflect.

• To see the list of recommendations like below, choose View Opportunities as shown in above screenshot.
